A great launching point for the aspiring paddleboarder, Tumalo Creek’s Basic Skills Standup Paddleboard Class will prepare participants to confidently explore our region’s flat and moving waterways. In the Basic Skills Standup Class you will learn comprehensive safety and basic paddle stroke techniques while enjoying the company and encouragement of other novice course mates and expert Tumalo Creek guides. Basic Skills Paddleboard Class is suggested as a beginning or refresher course for visitors and locals, ages 16 and up. Tumalo Creek guides are American Canoe Association (ACA) certified and have been instructing for many seasons on the Deschutes River. For questions about standup paddleboarding contact Sue Fox ([email protected]), our in house standup paddleboard ambassador and lead standup paddleboard instructor.

Join the enthusiastic staff at Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe in the heart of Bend, Oregon and learn the essential skills you need to fully enjoy your time out on the water in our Basic Skills Standup Paddleboard Class. This class is designed for the novice paddleboarder. You will learn to balance and move forward and other essentials like paddling from your core.

By the end of the Basic Skills Standup Paddleboard Class, participants will understand proper paddling strokes including forward, draw and turn strokes, and techniques to improve performance, efficiency and power on the water.

Cost: $55

Dates: Summer: Sunday and Thursday 9am-11am, Spring/Fall: Sunday 10am-12pm

Tumalo Creek provides:

  • paddleboard
  • paddle
  • PFD
  • guide

Participant provides:

  • sunglasses with Croakies or Chums
  • sunscreen and lip balm
  • sun hat, rain hat or fleece hat
  • quick drying top and bottom
  • raincoat and rain pants (hopefully not!)
  • water bottle
  • towel and change of clothes for after class if you get wet
