INTRODUCING MOCEAN KAYAKS!
Tumalo Creek has always been proud to feature kayaks and paddling gear from Northwest manufacturers. We are excited to be part of the Pacific Northwest’s newest kayak manufacturer, Mocean Kayaks!
Mocean has all the energy that you would expect from a passionate new start up but they also benefit from decades of thermoform know-how on their team which includes many original members from Eddyline Kayaks that was previously based in Burlington WA. Production manager, Todd Keane, has 30 years under his belt and is said by his colleagues to know more about thermoforming kayaks than anyone else in the world. Owners Michael and Nancy Carey have been traveling the West frequently to visit dealers, help out at demo events and even make deliveries to their new dealers including a visit to Tumalo just a couple weeks ago! On the road in the West for Mocean’s sales support is Ethan Ebersold of www.happypaddlin.com .
The first two models from Mocean are the Scout and the Scout XC. Both kayaks are 12 feet long and offer entry-level paddlers abundant stability and seasoned paddlers the ability to grow into this kayak with high secondary stability, dual bulkheads for safety and large hatches and capacity for overnight and weekend outings.
The Scout offers an easy entry cockpit with thigh padding for performance strokes. The Scout XC offers an even larger open cockpit for easy access to photo/fishing gear or a spot for your child or pet to ride along.
Fit and finish is exemplary. The long seat pan offers unmatched comfort for your rear with an adjustable backrest and ample padding for all day comfort on the water. A foredeck track mount can be used for accessories like go pro mounts or rod holders. The paddle holder/handle behind the cockpit is convenient for locking your paddle in for entry or rescue. We especially like the nice touch of no through-bolts on the hull for the footbraces.
The 12’ Scouts will be ideal for our local waters like the Deschutes River and the abundant high alpine lakes just up century drive . The Scouts are long enough for efficient glide and tracking but still manageable for winding one’s way down the Deschutes River.
We hope to make multiple trips every season visiting the crew at Mocean and sneaking in some paddling in the San Juan Islands. Want to join us in the San Juans? Learn more here. Mocean has shared that they plan to expand their offering this year and beyond with more models including light touring designs.
We have demos of both models available for every day trials and will be hosting the Mocean crew at our Paddle Fest, May 31 at Riverbend Park in Bend.
