Let the Water Do the Work

Join Tumalo Creek and American Whitewater for an evening with Peter Fox.

Peter had been guiding for only three years when he had his first huge world class rafting challenge, rowing for Sobek on Chile’s formidable Bio Bio River at the highest water level it would ever be run. He went on to make historic first raft descents of Chile’s Futaleufú and British Columbia’s Grand Canyon of the Stikine rivers. This is a rare chance to share images, insights, and stories with him.

A rowing teacher and 40-year boater, Peter brings an honest, humble reflection to what happens when we sit down on the rowing seat and pick up a pair of oars. The evening will include readings from his book, Let the Water Do the Work, which Kevin Fedarko, author of The Emerald Mile, calls “A dance of words no less fluid and every bit as graceful as the rivers it celebrates,” and which world class kayaker Benny Marr calls “A beautiful piece of whitewater literature.”

Whether you are a new boater, a wilderness lover, or someone who dreams of pushing boundaries, come share an evening of first person history and community. American Whitewater’s Senior Director of Policy and Science, Thomas O’Keefe, will be there too, so it’s a great chance to connect with us as well.

Peter will be signing copies of Let the Water Do the Work, with all proceeds going to American Whitewater’s ongoing mission of protecting and stewarding the rivers we love.
