Full-Day Deschutes River Tours

9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. | $105 | Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer

Tenino to Wyeth Campground

This full-day kayak and SUP tour begins just below Wickiup Reservoir and continues nine miles down the Upper Deschutes to Wyeth Camp Ground. This section of the river is characterized by moving flatwater; the current helps your boat along, and there are no sections of whitewater that require technical paddling skills. This is a great trip for beginning boaters and kids, but advanced paddlers will also enjoy the serenity and beautiful scenery of this peaceful section of the river.

There are a few summer homes on the first few miles of this run, but eventually the river begins to wind through the forest with trees on all sides. Paddlers can expect to see a variety of native wildlife including: deer, elk, bald eagles, red tail hawks, great blue herons, beavers and otters. Equipment and transportation are included on this guided tour.

La Pine State Park to Big River Campground

This Tumalo Creek full-day tour begins at La Pine State Park and continues ten miles down the Deschutes River to Big River Campground. This section of the river is characterized by slow currents, meandering side channels and lots of opportunities to view wildlife up close. Sections of summer homes are interspersed with beautiful scenery and spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains. Equipment and transportation are included on this guided tour.

Half-Day Deschutes River Tours

9 a.m. – 1 p.m. | $75 | Fridays throughout the summer

This half-day trip on the Upper Deschutes is only 25 minutes from Sunriver, making it the perfect mini-adventure for visitors to the area who would also like to fit in another activity in the afternoon. We’ll launch in the heart of the Deschutes National Forest: this section of river is completely undeveloped and pristine. While many families and groups choose to kayak during this river tour, stand-up paddleboarding is also a great option.

Paddlers will see interesting lava flow formations that surged down from Paulina Peak when this volcano erupted creating the Newberry Crater National Monument. There is a dense Aspen grove on one side of the river, and the water is an inviting shade of aqua-blue. We’ll paddle upstream towards Benham Falls exploring this tranquil section of the Upper Deschutes River. Listening for birds and watching for wildlife along the way. The trip ends with an easy float/paddle back to the put-in.

Reviews on Trip Advisor

“We used Tumalo’s River Taxi service yesterday. John helped us at the Sunriver location. He was really friendly and accommodating for us. It was so nice of him to load up our paddle boards and drop us off. He gave great directions and pointed out things we should look for along our paddle. He was there waiting for us several hours later. It really was a no brainer, he did it all for us. We just enjoyed the river and the paddle. I can’t wait to get back to Bend/Sunriver to use them again. It was $15 per person for the shuttle service. We felt safe leaving our car in their lot (fully loaded with all of our vacation belongings). Be sure to tip these guys!! They do it all for you so you don’t have to.” (August 11, 2015)
