Intermediate Skills Kayaking Class with Tuamlo Creek! So you’ve completed our Basic Skills Kayak Class and are looking to take things to the next level. Progress your paddling skills and confidence in our Intermediate Skills Class where you will learn advanced paddling strokes and concepts, effective maneuvers and rescue/reentry techniques. This full-day class on Elk Lake is a great primer for Tumalo Creek’s San Juan Islands Tours. 

Tumalo Creek guides are American Canoe Association (ACA) certified and have been guiding on the Deschutes and other rivers for decades.

Note: Please call the shop directly for reservations occurring 24 hours or less from class start date, 541.317.9407. Minimum enrollment needs can periodically result in course rescheduling.

What: Join us in our beautiful outdoor classroom on the Deschutes River as we introduce and practice advanced skills every new paddler needs. We’ll begin with a refresher and soon launch into how to perform a reentry and rescue plus new paddle techniques. Skills learned will prepare the participant for open flatwater adventures, distance or touring and excursions where inclement weather like swells and winds may occur. Intermediate Skills Classes are geared towards adults therefore a minimum age of 14 is required.

Dates: Offered Sundays, 8:15am – 4pm; July 7 & 21, August 4 & 18, & September 8

Tumalo Creek provides:
• kayak
• paddle
• spray skirt
• immersion equipment (upon request)
• instruction

Participant provides:
• sneakers, river shoes, or wetsuit booties
• sunglasses with retainers
• sunscreen and lip balm
• sun hat, rain hat or fleece hat
• synthetic top and bottom layers
• raincoat and rain pants (weather dependent)
• swimsuit
• water bottle
• lunch and snacks
