Intro to Swiftwater SUP

Swiftwater SUP Standup Paddleboarding

Intro to Swiftwater SUP

When: July 29 & August 19th, 9am-5pm

Cost: $ 125 per clinic, per participant

Where: Warms Springs to Trout Creek on lower Deschutes River. Meet at Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe, 805 SW Industrial Way, Bend, Or 97702.

What:  Excited about paddleboarding on the lake but wanting a little more challenge? Perhaps you’ve seen people on a SUP board in the whitewater park and wonder how to start? In our Intro to Swiftwater SUP, paddlers will begin learning the world of swiftwater/whitewater paddleboarding on the beautiful lower Deschutes River.  Swiftwater paddleboarding is a bundle of fun and doesn’t have to begin with “shredding the gnar” or what you might have seen on Facebook.  This clinic is focused on safety and fun with an emphasis on proper river paddleboarding equipment and river paddleboard fundamentals.

The clinic will be offered twice this summer, on July 29 and August 26 beginning at 9am from our Bend location. We will launch from Warm Springs after an onland safety discussion and basic stroke review. This 10-mile stretch of river is very scenic and the perfect amount of “frisky ripples” with a couple of friendly Class I/II rapids at the very end before taking out at Trout Creek.

Cost for this trip is $125 and includes a paddleboard, paddle and PFD as well as instruction, transportation, shuttle and river permit.  Please bring lunch, snacks and water plus recommended river gear (booties, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses).  Clinic begins at 9am and returns around 5pm.

What to bring:

  • Sneakers, river shoes, or wetsuit booties
  • Lunch and snacks
  • Sunglasses with Croakies or Chums
  • Sunscreen and lip balm
  • Water bottle
  • Thermal protection (wetsuit is ideal for this trip)
  • Booties or water shoes

Gear required for this trip is available for purchase at Tumalo Creek and other local retailers.
