Ladies weekend out on the water. Learn to navigate whitewater and gain confidence in your boat surrounded by other like minded ladies.
Tumalo Creek Kayak and Canoe in Bend, Oregon is excited to provide a special opportunity to learn the exhilarating sport of whitewater kayaking in a supportive, all-female environment. If you are looking for a challenge with big-time rewards, whitewater kayaking offers both in healthy doses. It takes some dedication, but most boaters would agree that it’s well worth the effort.
Join us for our Full Immersion Womens Whitewater Weekend, and you’ll experience a complete introduction to the sport in just two and a half days. Our expert female instructors will keep you safe out on the river, while gently prodding you outside of your comfort zone, and you’ll run a Class II+ rapid by the end of the weekend.
The course begins Friday evening from 5:30-8 p.m. in the pool behind the shop, where you will learn essential safety techniques and be introduced to basic paddle strokes. We’ll spend Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. practicing our skills in the gentle rapids by the Healy Bridge on the Deschutes River, and Sunday from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. (ish), we’ll run a longer stretch of the McKenzie or another nearby Class II river.
You will learn critical paddle skills, boat control, how to read moving water, and how to identify and safely negotiate river features like rocks, trees and rapids. By Sunday, you will be ready to transfer your developing skills to a real whitewater river!
Get ready to have a blast while putting into practice all your recently-acquired river-running techniques!

If you have your own gear and or boat you are more than welcome to bring your gear to the classes. It is always good to practice in the same equipment you will use after the class.
Can kids come to these lessons?

Do I have to get on the water?
If you are taking a class we do require you to come out on the water and practice the techniques we are covering. Though we start on land most of our instruction is on the water so students can try the new skill in real time.

It is entirely optional but highly recommended that you try your hand at a self rescue during class. Practice makes perfect and what better way to practice than by having a certified instructor right there with you.
Will I fall in?
It is entirely possible that you will fall in the water. We will always suit you up with all of the necessary safety gear for the discipline you are participating in, and our certified instructors are well versed in water rescues. But still, be prepared to swim.
