Imagine gliding through the refreshing waters of an alpine lake with only the wind propelling you forward, and Mt. Bachelor or South Sister perfectly framed in the distance. Rent one of Tumalo Creek’s Hobie Adventure Islands and you’ll be zooming across one of Central Oregon’s mountain lakes in no time. These kayak trimarans have two amas (or outriggers) on either side which makes them very stable. There is only one sail, so there’s not much to mess up! Unfurl the main and off you go. If the wind dies, Hobie’s patented Mirage Drive system comes in real handy.
Tumalo Creek has been Hobie’s Central Oregon dealer for six seasons and we’ve had a wonderful experience with the Adventure Islands. We’ve started a successful sailing program on Elk Lake, and we’ve even taken five of the boats down to Baja ourselves for a 10 day adventure from Loreto to LaPaz. The verdict: we love the Adventure Islands and can’t wait to introduce you to these incredibly fun and versatile boats.
For those that would like to have formal lessons on how to sail these, join us for Hobie Sailing Sundays offered three times this summer on Elk Lake during the afternoon of our Hobie Demo Days.
