Embark on the trip of a lifetime while learning sea navigation, ocean specific paddle techniques, efficient boat packing and wilderness camping skills… all while enjoying the company of friends and expert Tumalo Creek guides. This is the perfect trip for those who have progressed through our Basic Skills Kayaking I and/or II and want challenge their competence on the wide-open seas.
We’ll enjoy “backpacker” style gourmet meals and share songs and stories around the campfire each evening. During the days, expect to see an array of wildlife including orca whales, porpoise, sea lions, harbor seals, bald eagles. Four days out on the water will give us the chance experience everything rocky cliffs, to warm sandy beaches to thick island forests, all with the backdrop Mt. Baker or the Olympic Mountains in the distance.
The details:
-Guests should bring their own kayaks and personal camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, paco pad)
-Bring 3 - 6 smaller dry bags size 10 - 30 liter for packing other personal gear
-We sell dry bags on our online store and would be happy to send you some before your trip. It is important to pack light and make sure everything will fit in your boat prior to departure
-Tandem kayaks are available to rent
-Plan to paddle 5 - 12 miles a day
On the water, You Will Need:
- Tennis shoes or river sandals with wool socks or wetsuit booties
- Sunglasses with retention device (i.e. Croakies, Chums, etc)
- Sunscreen (SPF 30), lip balm (SPF 15)
- Sun hat, rain hat, and/or fleece hat
- Synthetic top and bottom (thermal underwear, heavier wt. for cooler weather)
- Rain coat and rain pants
- Nylon shorts and/or swimsuit
- Water bottle (1 quart)
- Towel and change of clothes for ride home
- Lunch and snacks
For Camp:
- Sleeping bag and pad
- Compact Tent (Tumalo Creek provides tarps for group areas)
- Swimsuit
- 1 pair walking shorts
- 2 cotton T shirts
- Synthetic pile pants and jacket
- Rain coat and pants
- 2 pair underwear
- Towel (small)
- Toilet kit
- Long sleeve shirt
- Sunglasses w/strap (chums or croakies)
- Insect repellent
- Flashlight w/spare bulb and batteries (head lamp)
- Spare eye glasses or contacts
- Shoes and socks
- small dry bags to store personal gear

Tumalo Creek sells dry bags for your personal gear and we'll provide our own dry bags for group gear for camp. We can also provide all boats, paddles, and PFD's. If you have any questions about what to bring please contact us. Tumalo Creek has a full line of paddling equipment and accessories. We would be happy to assist you in getting outfitted for your trip. Please remember to keep your personal gear to a minimum, but keep your comfort in mind.
SPECIAL NOTE: Our trips are BYOB. If you would like to bring your own please feel free to do so, and we will help with the storage and transportation. Please no glass.
