Here in Central Oregon, kayaking isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life. That’s because the locals know what every visitor could probably guess: some of the very best scenery in the Cascades is only accessed by boat!
Whether you live here, or are visiting for the first time, don’t let another summer slip by without trying your hand at the incredibly fun and easy-to-learn sport of flatwater kayaking.
Join us in our beautiful outdoor classroom as we introduce and practice the skills every new paddler needs to explore Central Oregon's pristine waterways. We’ll begin with a relaxing introduction to kayaking where you will learn about boat dynamics, appropriate gear and our favorite paddling destinations.
We’ll then launch our boats into the Deschutes River and begin to build our paddling techniques. In a very short time, kayakers will begin to understand how the boat, blade and paddle can work together to create the most efficient strokes. By the end of the lesson, paddlers will develop the technique and confidence to enjoy Central Oregon’s waterways on their own. If you’re feeling brave, try a wet exit at the end of class. We’ll be right there to help you back in your boat!
Depending on the weather, you’ll need:
-sneakers or river shoes, with wool socks or wetsuit booties
-sunglasses with Croakies or Chums
-sunscreen and lip balm
-sun hat, rain hat or fleece hat
-synthetic top and bottom (i.e. thermal underwear)
-raincoat and rain pants
-swimsuit
-water bottle
-towel and change of clothes for after class
