Rocking the Glide in open water

Looking to do some flat water cruising on your lunch hour? If a fast, steady board calls your name try out the Naish Glide. Built for speed but equipped with forgiving side rails, this board is sure to change your outlook on flat water paddling.

My history with this board goes back to the first day of the season here at  Tumalo Creek when I decided to take it for a lunch time cruise behind the shop, one of the many perks of my job. Our first date I will admit I was nervous, intimidated by the length and “race” aspect of the board. My legs were shaky, my balance off, my stomach had a queasy feeling as I eased onto my knees. I’m going to be honest, initially things were moving a little too fast for me, I mean this board was built to fly. The narrow 27 1/4″ width does take some getting used to, but by the time the glide and I reached Farewell Bend Park, we were going steady. The thick edges measuring in at 5 3/4″ made this board buoyant enough to compensate for my lack of paddling knowledge.

At this stage in the game I’m comfortable saying that there is no board I would rather go home to. With the both 12′ and 14′ lengths  the Glide can offer the same happiness to you, whether you’re a seasoned racer or an unlearned wannabe SUPer like myself. Be sure to come into the shop and find your life partner; or if commitment isn’t your thing try multiple at our  SUP socials Monday, Tuesday or Thursday night.

Women's Stand Up Paddleboard Night at Tumalo Creek: Every Monday and Thursday this summer

We are the oldest Stand Up Paddleboard store in Central Oregon, which basically means we were invested in the sport way before it exploaded in popularity. By invested, we mean we want to help grow the SUP community and teach people the sport in the fun and safe atmosphere so that they will become lifelong paddlers.

Join us out on the water this summer! We have a full schedule of events every night of the week at Tumalo Creek from our ever popular Women’s SUP Night, to Full Moon Paddles, to an easy-going SUP Race Series. We are your Central Oregon SUP headquarters.

So mark your calendars and check out our events calendar often. New events are always being added and we encourage you to sign up early as our programs are super fun and therefore really popular. Great value, great times. It’s all here at Tumalo Creek.

Current results for Tumalo Creek & Naish SUP Race Series – July 2010

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

We’ve had a great turnout this summer for our Naish SUP Race series in Bend sponsored by Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe. Keep comin’ on down every Wednesday night through the end of August. If you are new to the sport and without a board, give us a call to reserve one for the night of the races… as always we offer  1/2 off for race participants: a SUP board, paddle and PFD for $20.

Mark your calendars the sweet last-race after-party on August 25 with Bend’s Moon Mountain Ramblers. Our Pickin’ & Paddlin’ Demo Days and Music Series are a fund raiser for the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance that is currently working on creating a whitewater play park with THREE surf waves at Colorado Bridge. This event will be steamed live on the internet by our neighbors SteamIt so viewers from all over the world be be watching. I know everyone in the SUP community is going to be psyched when this goes in so come on over and show your support, drink some beers provided by Cascade Lakes Brewery and throw a few bucks in the hat. Last night we raised over $1000!

As always we are open to feedback about the event, so comment away…

Women’s SUP night at Tumalo Creek in Bend July 19, 2010

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Thanks to Jen Kjellesvik and crew for another successful women’s SUP night at Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe in Bend!

Here is a sweet review (below) we just got on our blog last week from Krista Zweers. Thanks Krista! And ladies, help us spread the word to all your friends. This is great night out on the river and an affordable way to learn the sport in only an hour and a half. Board, PFD, paddle and instruction are all included for only $20. If you can’t make it down to one of these nights, we do rentals every day for $40 (2 hours) for $50 the whole day. And as always, we offer free demos if you are looking to pick up your very own board!

Keep checking our blog, as we will be posting how-to videos by our very own Jen Kjellesvik of Adventure Fitness. Jen just started offering a SUP Fitness Class on Tuesday nights – so take it to the next level this summer – we still have two months left : )

Hey Team Tumalo Creek and Jen! Had a great time this past couple Ladies SUP nights. Amazing weather, very relaxing, easy to do and all around great evenings with ladies chatting and gliding on the river. Excellent idea getting a ladies night going and what a fun and relaxing sport after a days work or day with kids. Anyone can do this, young or old! Give it a try! Thanks guys!

Look at all them boards! Thanks to Sunriver Resort for renting us their fleet for the night!

Our women's SUP nights have been selling out every Monday. Take it to the next step and try out Jen's SUP fitness class on Tuesdays 5:30 - 7 p.m.

One of the best parts about SUP Boards is that even small women can carry them by themselves. Nick, who took all these pics, can also hook you up with a sweet rack so you can get it on the car.

Yes that is 25 boards out in front of Tumalo Creek!

Rollin on the river!
