Eddyline’s Fathom LV – Review
Thursday, June 24th, 2010Eddyline’s Fathom LV, the compact carbonlite variant of the Fathom is for smaller paddlers, looking for a boat remains efficient in all kinds of conditions. I took this boat out one afternoon on the Upper Deschutes, and even when the wind picked up and the waves started to roll, the boat tracked as if it was gliding on a rail. I also appreciated that it is lighter than it’s parent boat, as sometimes the hardest part about kayaking is figuring out how to get the boat to and from the put-in.
She’s a little tippy, but the edges are easy to adapt to and the curved foredeck provided enough room from my lower angle strokes.
Designed by Tom Derrer for San Juan Island touring, the internal volume is sufficient for camping if you pack light enough. The carbonlite material it is crafted out of is surprisingly durable, and makes for a beautiful boat. This is one of the most versatile boats made by Eddyline and is a great choice for those who are looking for a smaller, high-performance kayak that is easy to handle on and off the water.
