Pine Mountain Sports, oh how I love thee.
We have great relationships with many outdoor stores in Bend, but one of our favorite sisters is Pine Mountain Sports. Their attention to local details, the awesome staff we call friends and the informal business-to-business rap that Geoff and Dan have established over the years makes them one of our favorite spots in town.
Every time I walk into Pine I feel like I’ve just walked into a bar where “everybody knows my name” but instead of folks getting a buzz on, the vibe is clean and healthy and outdoorsy. With all the competition and stress associated with the retail industry right now, it is such a nice surprise to feel like the sales people are my friends and community compatriots. Instead of breathing down my neck to buy something, they are there to attentively offer any assistance I might need, or else chat it up about their favorite places to ski in the backcountry or hike or boat or float. This is just the kind of feeling we like to curate at Tumalo Creek and it is great to know there is still shops out there where there is still a lot of fun in the mix.
Tonight I walked in to pick up yet another pair of skis that were being comped to me by Dan and company for an article I’m writing on tele skiing for The Source Weekly. Mark (blonde Mark) fitted my boots to bindings and would have had me out of there in about five minutes if I didn’t hang around to take pictures of Chris and (mountain-bike) Mark’s Hawaiian shirts. I guess it is floral Friday now down at Pine, a bit of “flair” that made at least one girl in Bend walk out to into the warm winter night and feel a fleeting and guilty sentiment of gratitude for global warming.
